In November 2012 I created my first Instagram account

I Love it When the Images, When the Images Wash Over Me is the story of my time on Instagram and the meme account I’ve been posting to from the age of 13. It’s told using the images posted to the account in the 6-year period and narrated by a deepfake modelled on myself. The film deals with the different ways I’ve used the platform, articulating the various roles memes have played in formative years and my relationship to the images on the page.

Although the story told in the film is entirely from my perspective the posting arcs discussed are easily recognisable reflecting large chunks of contemporary experiences shared by many young people online.

It was created whilst part of a young artist programme at the Barbican Centre.
